Phong Nha has become much more accessible throughout the years thanks to development and tourism. You can get to Quang Binh by plane, train, or bus. Please be advised that for those who choose to travel by plane and train, you need to get a transfer from Dong Hoi to Phong Nha. FLIGHTS TO PHONG NHA
Flying is the best option for guests coming from Hanoi, Saigon, and international guests. International flights are an important consideration for those travelling from around the world. The three major international airports in Vietnam are:
Hanoi (Noi Bai International Airport)
Saigon/Ho Chi Minh City (Tan Son Nhat International Airport)
Da Nang (Da Nang International Airport)
If you arrive in Ho Chi Minh City, you will need to take another domestic flight to Dong Hoi Airport to reach us. If you coming from Hanoi, we can be reached all three modes of transportation. From Da Nang, bus or train is a good choice to come to us.
Hanoi to Phong Nha: The quickest way to get to Quang Binh from Ha Noi is a direct fly from Noi Bai Airport to Dong Hoi Airport. It is about an hour and a half flying. This is to inform you, Noi Bai Airport is a bit far away from Ha Noi’s center so make sure to take that travel time into account. It is best to check official websites of the airline of your choice ahead of time to ensure an available flight on your desired travel dates. Otherwise, we suggest using the train or bus. Note that if you choose to fly, an extra transfer from Dong Hoi to Phong Nha is needed.
Ho Chi Minh City to Phong Nha: The most practical way to travel between Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) and Phong Nha is to take a flight with any of the domestic airlines, to Dong Hoi City (located 45 minutes drive from Phong Nha). From Dong Hoi, you will need to book an additional transfer to Phong Nha.
So unless you have time to spare and love to explore Vietnam in many ways, we don’t recommend to travel from Ho Chi Minh City to Phong Nha by bus or train since it will take a long time and might affect your tours commencement.
BUSES TO PHONG NHA
Travelling by bus give you the perk of meeting friends along the way to Phong Nha. These are air-conditioned sleeper buses with a small toilet at the back. You will make quick stops along the way, where you’ll find basic toilet facilities and refreshment. Most bus companies stop directly in Phong Nha. Therefore, the bus option is becoming a popular choice among travellers. We recommend Hung Thanh Travel and Queen Cafe Bus which will go on all these routes listed below. The bus fares will be approximately around 250.000VND/person. This price may changes depend on the provider and your route.
Hanoi to Phong Nha: It is relatively easy to reach Phong Nha from Hanoi, and vice versa. Most bus companies will now stop directly in Phong Nha which saves on the additional transfer from Dong Hoi (closest train station and airport to Phong Nha).
Hung Thanh’s bus will depart from Ha Noi (162B Tran Quang Khai) at 6PM and will arrive in Phong Nha at 4AM.
Alternative 1) Queen Cafe’s bus, they will depart at the same time with Hung Thanh bus at 208 Tran Quang Khai, Ha Noi and arrive in Phong Nha at roughly the same time.
Ninh Binh to Phong Nha: Ninh Binh is located on the way from Hanoi to Phong Nha, so you can use the same bus to come to Phong Nha. Buses will depart from Ninh Binh around 10PM
Ha Long to Phong Nha: For bus travel from Ha Long, please be informed that you’ll be dropped at Dong Hoi and not Phong Nha directly. From Dong Hoi, you will need to get on another bus to Phong Nha. Hoang Long bus company might be the one you want to look up when travelling from Ha Long.
Hue to Phong Nha: Hue is located just a few hours’ drive from Phong Nha. A lot of bus companies provide this route. Hung Thanh’s bus departs from 49 Chu Van An, Hue at 5PM and arrive in Phong Nha at 9PM.
Alternative 1) Tan Nhat Travel/Duy Tan Travel bus departs from central Hue at 7AM and will arrive in Phong Nha around noon.
Alternative 2) DMZ Bus will depart from 1 Pham Ngu Lao, Hue at 2PM and arrive in Phong Nha at 6PM.
Da Nang (Hoi An) to Phong Nha: Da Nang is the biggest city in central Vietnam, with beautiful beaches, mountains. It is a 7 hour/bus journey between Da Nang and Phong Nha. Hung Thanh’s bus departs from Hoi An at 1PM and Da Nang at 2PM and arrive in Phong Nha at 9PM. DMZ Bus also offer buses to Phong Nha from Da Nang or Hoi An but you might have to purchase tickets for 2 routes Da Nang/Hoi An – Hue and Hue – Phong Nha.

TRAINS TO PHONG NHA
Train is a fun way to travel as you can enjoy the scenery, get comfortable, and even have a cup of coffee in the morning. The most comfortable cabin on the train is the sleeper cabin with 4 beds so there are plenty room to sit or lie down. There are sleeper cabins with 6 beds which is also good but it won’t be as comfortable as there are less space to sit. Overnight trains are also a fun experience since you can meet many people from various places.
Unfortunately, train schedules cannot be guaranteed. Therefore, if you plan to join in any 1 day tour, we advise that you travel directly by bus, arriving in Phong Nha, on your tour starting date. Or, if you wish to fly, or travel by train, you should plan to arrive in Phong Nha 1 day before the tour starts.
