Remote Kayak Adventure
It’s certainly not an easy day, with 25km of kayaking downstream, but rest assured the journey will bring you to some spectacular locations along the river, home to a number of ethnic minority people.
You’ll start your day in Phong Nha where your English-speaking guide will pick you up from your local hotel in Phong Nha. You’ll drive over the spectacular Da Deo Pass, a one-hour journey across one of the most spectacular mountain ranges in Vietnam that straddles the border of Laos. As you pass through a number of villages traveling on the Ho Chi Minh Highway, you will reach the start of your journey at Thuong Hoa.
Thuong Hoa is a quaint little village home to the Nguon people, an ethnic minority group that were previously living only in the jungle, without exposure to the modern world till the late 1990s. After a stretching session you will take your first paddle through the stunning landscapes, that combine towering limestone mountains, against lush green valleys, dotted with small farming communities.
Taking a kayak brings you up close and personal with the local people, giving you a chance to their local way of life along the riverbanks. Local fisherman take their daily meals back to their families, as woman tend to the buffalo, or children play amongst the riverbank.
As you paddle into your final village of the day, a smile will no doubt cross your face, as its one of the most quaint villages in all of Central Vietnam. Your guide will introduce you to many of the locals and you might be lucky to be invited into some of their homes. This is a true once-in-a-lifetime experience.
This tour is suitable for those with a good level of fitness with kayaking experience. It will certainly test your strength. Not to worry if you become too tired though as there is plenty of time to stop at little villages along the way, and even jump in the van when passing near a road. Be advised, as you are traveling through a very remote area, with little to no modern conveniences, there are not the modern luxuries of western-style bathrooms, and you’ll have to make do with village-style squat toilets to get you through the day when nature calls – all part of the experience!
Our kayak tour is available all year round. We depart everyday.
